The City of Poth is currently accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. The Chief is responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of the police department, provide patrol, criminal investigations, crime prevention, enforce all laws and ordinances and be responsible for public health and safety. Must be community oriented, have strong public relations skills, strong work ethics, must be physically fit and maintain a professional image while in uniform. A High School Diploma or GED is required. Must have a valid Class C or higher Texas Driver’s License. Must be TCLEOSE Master Peace Officer certified and have at least 5 years of experience with law enforcement agency; SWAT, Gang Unit, Narcotics or Detective experience a plus, pass a thorough background check investigation with drug screen and credit check. The City offers benefit package with retirement plan and medical insurance. Salary dependent on qualifications. EOE. Daniel “Danny” Herald Jr. of La Vernia, Texas, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 52 years, 6 months, and 13 days. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children when he left this life. Danny was born Feb. 13, 1960, in San Antonio, the son of Daniel Herald Sr. and Luisa Melgar.

Danny was employed with Industrial Engine Service for more than 31 years and was well-known for his knowledge throughout the industry. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed his time at his deer lease.

Danny is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 30 years, Kim (Klepach) Herald; his daughter, Tiffany Herald of La Vernia; his son, Danny Herald of La Vernia; his grandson, Landon Herald, who affectionately called Danny “PoPo”; and his parents, Daniel and Luisa Herald of San Antonio. He is also survived by his brothers, Cliff Herald and wife Sherri of Rockport, George Herald and wife Melinda of Seguin, and David Herald of San Antonio; his sister, Linda Greydanus and husband Dom of San Antonio; his mother-in-law, Janet Klepach of San Antonio, his father-in-law, Jim Klepach of Pipe Creek; numerous nieces and nephews; many loving family and friends; and his loving pet “Cookie.”

Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 30, from 5-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in the St. Ann Catholic Church in La Vernia with the Rev. Stanislaw Fiuk officiating.

Interment followed in the Concrete Cemetery in La Vernia.
