JV Tigers open year with win over Highlands Owls

FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville High School junior varsity Tiger football team opened its 2012 season with a scrappy win over the Highlands Owls.

The Tigers fell behind in the first half, 6-0, after a slow start and a lucky bounce on a broken-up pass. After the touchdown, Marcus Avila blocked the extra-point attempt, which would end up being the difference in the game.

The Tiger defense played great throughout, with some outstanding play from Luke Smith, Tony Grimaldo, Sebastian Rodriguez, Avila, Roland Ayelsworth, and Joshia Ramirez.

The Tiger offense finally got rolling in the second half with some strong running from Lorenzo Neaves and Dillon Gaither. The Tigers scored on fourth-and-goal with a great pass and catch from Gaither to Tyler Masur. The extra-point kick by Aaron Balles was perfect to give the Tigers the lead.

Once again, at the end of the game, the Tiger defense came up big with two interceptions in the fourth quarter by Masur and Neaves to help preserve the 7-6 win for the Tigers.

Congratulations, Tigers, on win No. 1!
