Deputies charge Corpus Christi man in stabbing
FLORESVILLE -- Joel Ramon De Leon, 35, of Corpus Christi is charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for his alleged role in a Sept. 2 stabbing that occurred near the intersection of U.S. 181 and C.R. 331.
Investigator Roland Treviño of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said that a group of family members and friends left a Sept. 1 wedding to frequent some area bars. Among them was 23-year-old Steven Miles, who was ejected from Ropers on U.S. 181 in Floresville, prompting the rest of the group to depart for a home on C.R. 331.
While en route on U.S. 181, Treviño said an argument ensued, prompting the driver of the vehicle to pull over near C.R. 331. De Leon and Miles allegedly exited the vehicle and began fighting, resulting in Miles getting stabbed eight times and De Leon being knocked unconscious and left at the scene.
Miles was transported to the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, where he was then airlifted to the San Antonio Military Medical Center. Deputies located De Leon hours later, and transported him to Connally for treatment. Treviño said De Leon suffered a black eye and a broken jaw, and also was missing some teeth.
De Leon was later transported to the Wilson County Jail, where records indicate he was released after posting $8,000 bond.
