ESD No. 1 proposes higher tax rate
LA VERNIA -- Hearings on both the budget and tax rate for the Wilson County Emergency Services District No. 1’s 2013 fiscal year are set for Sept. 13, in conjunction with the ESD’s regular board meeting. Votes on both items are set to follow, said board President Michael Hanson Sept. 5.
The board held a brief public hearing Sept. 6 on its proposed ad valorem tax rate of 8.8 cents per $100 of assessed property value. The rate is 0.47 cents higher than the current rate of 8.33 cents.
According to the Wilson County Appraisal District, the average taxable value of a home within ESD No. 1 was certified at $174,139, which is 2.35 percent higher than last year’s value of $170,142. If the district adopts the 8.8-cent rate, the average tax bill will increase approximately 8.1 percent, from $141.73 to $153.24.
Hanson declined to provide a copy of the district’s proposed budget, saying that it still is preliminary and includes items that likely will not be a part of the adopted version.
