Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1946-2012

David Wayne Chesser, 66, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012. He was born on Feb. 27, 1946, in Yoakum to Virgil Deb Chesser and Elvira Marcella Huhs.

He was affectionately known as “D.W.,” “Big Dave,” and “Super Dave.” He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 887 in Kingsbury.

David was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jeffrey Anders; a brother, Virgil Chesser; and a sister, Lois Chesser.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Carol Chesser; daughters Joyce DeLeon and husband Simon of Jacinto City, Janice Garner and husband Kevin of La Vernia, Jackie Gilkerson and husband Robert of La Vernia, Kimberly Anders of BelAir, Md., and Diane Anderson of Street, Md.; sons Donald Crenshaw and wife Cindy of Deer Park, Joseph Huskins of Marion, N.C., and Greg Anderson and wife Bonnie of Jarrettsville, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters Susie Elley and husband Gary of Seguin and Vanessa Blandford and husband Kirk of La Vernia; sister-in-law Gail Mabe of Lancaster, Pa.; nephew Daniel Griffing; niece Leah Riaz and husband Mohammed; numerous cousins; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 9, from 7-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A service was held Monday at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel with Keith Johansen officiating.
