GEORGETOWN -- Two colleges in Texas are among those included in an updated edition of the influential book, Colleges That Change Lives: 40 Schools That Will Change the Way You Think About Colleges.

Austin College in Sherman and Southwestern University in Georgetown were both included in the original edition of Colleges that Change Lives, published in 1996. The book was written by Loren Pope, former education editor of The New York Times and longtime education consultant.

Pope wanted to help high school students find colleges that help them develop a lifelong love of learning and provide the foundation for a successful and fulfilling life beyond college. In many cases, these turned out to be colleges that weren’t necessarily very well-known.

Austin College is a leading national independent liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman. Founded in 1849, the college is related by covenant to the Presbyterian Church (USA), and is recognized nationally for academic excellence in the areas of international education, pre-professional training, and leadership studies. For more information, visit www.austincollege.edu.

Southwestern University is a selective, nationally recognized undergraduate liberal arts college with an enrollment of 1,400 students. It is the oldest institution of higher learning in Texas. For more information, visit www.southwestern.edu.
