SEGUIN -- While many schools just started classes Aug. 27, the students at Lifegate Christian School were already two weeks into the 2012-13 school year. Classes at Lifegate started Aug. 15 and will continue through May 23, 2013.

Lifegate enters its 32nd year of service to Christian families seeking a safe, affordable, and quality Christian education for their children. Enrollment at Lifegate, which serves kindergarten through the 12th grade, reached a record high of 173 students, including 23 new students.

“We’re so blessed to have an increase in our enrollment for the new school year,” said Lifegate Principal Gerard Lopez, starting his second year at the school. “We know that God is working and are grateful for His provision. We also know we have a great responsibility to serve our students and their families. Our prayer is that we would glorify God, and ask for His help to meet the challenges of growth.”

Lifegate also welcomed six new faculty members for the school term.

Stephanie Weaver teaches first grade. She is a graduate of Lifegate Christian School and Texas Lutheran University. She has taught for 11 years and was named a teacher of the year in the Seguin Independent School District last year. She and her husband, Jeremy, also a Lifegate graduate, are parents of three boys, two of whom attend Lifegate.

Kathie Behrendt returns to the Lifegate faculty to teach fifth grade. She has 18 years of teaching experience and is a graduate of Texas Lutheran University. She and her husband, Brack, are parents of three children, one of whom attends Lifegate. They also have three grandchildren.

Laura Dodson is a graduate of Howard Payne University and teaches art and middle school language arts. She and her husband, Jeff, have five boys, all attending Lifegate.

Linda Anderson, one of the founding members of Lifegate Church, has returned to teach Spanish and science. Her teaching experience includes numerous subjects from pre-school to college levels. Linda is married to Clifton Anderson and is the mother of five children.

John Taddy joins the Lifegate faculty to coordinate self-paced learning programs and other special projects. The former athletic director at Lifegate from 2001-07, he is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. He and his wife, Kathleen, have one son, who attends Lifegate.

Ron Zeiner returns to the Lifegate faculty to teach high school Bible. He was among the original faculty members when the school opened in 1981. He has served as a missionary to South Africa and currently pastors the Bread of Life Church in Uvalde.

Students and parents arrived to see many improvements to the Lifegate campus. Renovations done during the summer included parking lot improvements, painting and replacing football bleacher seating, building of a football concessions stand, repair of gym bleachers, refurbishing the school playground, and remodeled teachers’ lounge, first-grade classroom, science lab, and restrooms.

Pastor Robert Odom thanked the many volunteers and donors whose efforts made the repairs possible, saying, “Lifegate Christian School operates without any tax dollars. This ministry is supported by tuition, our church offerings, a God-called faculty and staff, friends and donors from the community, and beyond. Some of our greatest help comes from volunteers who feel called by God to come alongside our school and provide services that would otherwise be difficult for us to obtain. Many thanks are due to all who are so generous with their time and talents, helping this educational and discipleship ministry to work. All glory and praise to God!”

Lifegate Christian School is a private Christian school serving the families of Seguin and the surrounding communities since 1981. The School is located at 395 Lifegate Lane, three miles southeast of Seguin on F.M. 466; it is a ministry of Lifegate Church.
