AUSTIN -- The campus of the University of Texas at Austin has been evacuated, following a telephoned bomb threat at approximately 8:35 a.m. today. The university employed its text alert system, advising students to evacuate if they were on campus, or to not go to the campus if they were en route.

The university’s website states, “Evacuation due to threats on campus. Immediately evacuate ALL buildings and get as far away as possible.”

Tweets on Twitter from various sources, including Metro Rail, offered similar advice.

According to several news sources, the university got a call from a male with a Middle Eastern accent and claiming to be with al Qaeda, said he had placed bombs on the campus.

All the campus buildings were being evacuated as a precaution.
