FLORESVILLE -- City Councilman Mario Morones has not resigned from his council seat, putting paid to rumors in the community to that effect.

Morones told the Wilson County News he received a phone call at approximately 9 a.m. today from Floresville City Secretary Margaret Aranda, advising she had received his resignation letter. Aranda asked if he had resigned, to which he responded he had not, but that he would visit City Hall later to view the document in question.

At approximately 10:50 a.m., Morones went to City Hall, accompanied by Floresville businessman Jim Miller, along with a reporter from this newspaper.

Aranda presented Morones with a photocopy of a letter and asked him if he had resigned. Morones advised he had not, and asked for the original of the document she showed him. Aranda said the only document she had was another copy, which had been folded and left in her office.

The city secretary had not responded to a request for comment before this item was posted.

This is the latest in ongoing issues regarding the Floresville City Council in the wake of the city’s plan to build a sports complex and residents petitioning for the opportunity to vote on the matter, followed by a failure to muster quorums and the lack of a presiding officer for scheduled council meetings, a lawsuit filed by the mayor against the city councilmen in response to recent absences by Morones and fellow Councilman John Guerrero, and more.

Read more about this in the Sept. 19 issue of the Wilson County News.

Reader - the story is from 2012 when Mario opposed Tejada and strongly supported the people. That was before he went over to the Dark Side. Oh and running a Game Room that was closed by law enforcement, that happened a few months ago.

Nick - D Tejada will throw a sitting board member off if he sees they are not willing to co-operate with his personal agena. He is certainly not going to appoint a citizen to fill a position that will not benefit his agenda.

Concerned: very interesting! Isn't someone on the council (but not for long) related to the Police Chief? GOD, I AM SO TIRED OF THE NEPOTISM AND CORRUPTION. Can't enough people be found that are NOT RELATED TO EACH OTHER!

Is this the same Morones who allegedly was called by someone in the Floresville Police Department just prior to the Feds raiding the game rooms to warn him to get out with the money and weapons before they showed up?

And, is this the same Mario Morones who owned one of the eight-liner shops that the Feds raided? And, if so, why isn't his Mexican butt in jail? Hey, Rene, what's the follow through on your BIG RAID? Are there no consequences... More ›
