Texas Continues Fight against Obama Administration’s Assault on Freedom of Religion

Multi-state group appeals challenge to Obama Administration’s rule that violates First Amendment, Religious Freedom Restoration Act

AUSTIN -- Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued the following statement announcing that Texas and six other states, plus two individuals and three Catholic organizations, today appealed their challenge to an Obama Administration rule that unconstitutionally requires religious organizations to purchase employee health insurance that conflicts with their moral and religious beliefs:

"The Obama Administration is trampling on religious liberty and violating the U.S. Constitution by forcing private citizens and faith-based organizations to purchase health insurance coverage that conflicts with their religious beliefs. The very first amendment to our Constitution was intended to protect against this sort of government intrusion. With today's notice of appeal, we are continuing our fight to preserve and protect the religious freedoms enshrined in our Constitution."
