Stockdale ISD sets aside $500K for future projects
STOCKDALE -- Setting aside funding for future needs topped the agenda of the Sept. 10 Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) board of trustees meeting.
According to Stockdale ISD Superintendent Paul Darilek after the meeting, the board committed $500,000 toward future projects to be named at a later time. Darilek explained the state allows school districts to designate any funding more than the amount needed to cover three months of operating expenditures to be set aside as “unassigned funds.” He said the district used such money, to fund the tennis court project just completed this past school year. At that time, the district set aside $450,000 for this purpose.
Also regarding funds, the district was given an extension to complete the needed 62 pages of paperwork for the $100,000 Texas Cool Schools grant, applied for by the district in September 2011. The grants, from federal stimulus money for energy efficiency programs, will be used to replace 10 air-conditioning units in the elementary school. Darilek said the school was only given two weeks to complete the paperwork; the new deadline is Dec. 31.
