Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1932-2012

Rudy P. Garza Sr. passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 80 years, 6 months, and five days. Rudy was born March 5, 1932, in Floresville, the son of Christopher and Maria Garza. He was a lifelong resident of Floresville and a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Prudencio Garza; and his cousin, Chris Munoz.

Rudy is survived by his children, Carolyn Garza, Annette M. Garza, Lori Garza, and Rudy Garza and wife Marion, all of San Antonio; his stepchildren, Cindy Uriegas of San Antonio, Ray Gallegos of San Antonio, and Danny Gallegos of Austin; his sister, Gloria Felix of San Antonio; his brothers, Chris Garza of Floresville and Raul Luna of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at noon in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

Interment followed in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
