Mary Ann Oltjendiers Boening Zunker, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, until her last several years residing in Seguin, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at 11:48 p.m. in Remarkable Healthcare in Seguin, at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 10 days. Mary Ann was born May 10, 1933, in the Three Oaks community in Wilson County, the daughter of Edna Voigt and Ben Oltjendiers Jr.

After graduating from Floresville High School, class of 1951, Mary Ann worked as a rural letter carrier for many years until her retirement. She married Ervin Zunker in 1976 in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville. She was a member of the Order of the Sons of Hermann and Hochheim Prairie. Mary Ann was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Seguin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 29 years, Ervin Zunker.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Michelle A. Gay and husband Tom of Seguin and Michael J. Boening and wife Kim of Floresville; grandchildren Justin J. Gay of Floresville, Austin C. Gay and wife Jennifer of Seguin, and Caitlyn C. Munoz, Madeline J. Boening, McKenzie J. Boening, and Maverick J. Boening, all of Floresville; great-grandson Benjamin J. Munoz of Floresville; a brother, Charles Oltjendiers and wife Antoinette of Floresville; a sister, Gladys Reed and husband Barney of Fulton; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church in Poth officiated by Kelly Tankersley, S.A.M.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Justin J. Gay, Austin C. Gay, Maverick J. Boening, Jeff Oltjendiers, Edward Herolt, Barney Reed, and William “Billy” Tieken.

Memorials may be made to Pastor William F. Lange Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Faith Lutheran Church, 1326 E. Cedar St., Seguin, TX 78155.
