1925-2012

Clarence Alfred “Pete” Brehm died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at the age of 87. He was born May 18, 1925, in southeast Bexar County and grew up in Cibolo, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, primarily in the Pacific theater. After his military service, Pete married Vernell Seiler of Schertz. They were married and lived in San Antonio for 54 years until her death in 2003. He worked for Pearl Brewery in San Antonio for 54 years in the bottle shop and as a long-distance truck driver. They raised two daughters, Robbie Lynn and Christie Nell.

Pete was a member of First Lutheran Church in Floresville, and was part of the Men in Mission. He was a longtime league bowler and avid deer hunter. He loved to dance and to watch the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs play. He rarely missed watching his three favorite TV shows, “The Price is Right,” “Wheel of Fortune,” and “Bonanza.” He enjoyed playing dominoes, fishing on the Gulf Coast, and special family gatherings and reunions. In his later days, he enjoyed growing roses in his garden near Floresville, going out to eat, and playing with his great-granddaughters, Payton Aubrey Milton, Sarah Autumn Grace Caisse, and Brilynn Nichole Milton, who lived with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lydia (Schertz) Brehm; his wife, Vernell Brehm; and his five brothers and sisters.

Pete is survived by his daughters, Robbie Lynn Brehm Conley and husband Randy of Faith, N.C., and Christie Nell Brehm of McAllen; grandchildren Erin Hamilton and husband Eric of Chapin, S.C., Allison Byxbe and husband Ben of Lancaster, Pa., Katie Milton and husband Chris of Floresville, Emily Caisse of San Antonio, Jason Woods of Floresville, and Cassie “Scotter” Gonzalez of McAllen; nine great-grandchildren; numerous “adopted” grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville, officiated by Pete’s son-in-law, Pastor Randy Conley.

Entombment followed at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.

Serving as pallbearers were Scott Akin, John Pantuso, Jason Pfeil, Dominik Rabenaldt, Jeff Rutledge, and Randy Schuette.

Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church, 1406 Sixth St., Floresville, TX 78114.
