Maria Adelina Pena Guerrero celebrated her 100th birthday Sept. 23 with a special morning Mass at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in San Antonio, attended by her Guadalupanas and family.

Born in Floresville, Texas, on Sept. 28, 1912, to Mariano Pena and Carolina Ximenes, she was the youngest of three children. She lost her mother at the tender age of 3 and was raised by her maternal grandmother, Antonia Ximenes.

When she was in her early 20s, the family moved to San Antonio, where she married Daniel Guerrero in 1934. The union brought them eight daughters and two sons. She became a widow in 1957.

Maria was employed at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio before retiring. She is also a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church and the Guadalupanas, and has made many friends along the way.

Maria has eight living children, 19 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her strong faith, hard work, and dedication to her family have enriched all our lives. We love you. Happy Birthday and God Bless, said her family.
