Floresville HS September students of the month
Floresville High School’s September female student of the month is Liesel Raabe, the 17-year-old daughter of Tammy and John Raabe.
For her efforts in the classroom, Liesel has earned numerous honors throughout her high school career. She was named to the A Honor Roll as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. She received the Outstanding Student of the Year award in Pre-AP World Geography, Pre-AP Geometry, Pre-AP Algebra II, Pre-Cal, Pathway to Success, and Accounting I.
Liesel is president of the National Honor Society and is a council member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She serves as treasurer of the Texas Association of Future Educators. She is also the senior class reporter/historian. As a member of Link Crew, Liesel serves as a mentor to incoming freshmen. As a member of the 4-H, Liesel has placed fifth and sixth in the goat portion of the Wilson County Junior Livestock Show.
Liesel has been a member of the varsity cross-country and basketball teams for the past four years and the varsity track team for three years. She received Academic All-District recognition in all sports her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She was the cross-country individual regional finalist as a sophomore and was a member of the cross-country regional finalist team her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She also helped the basketball team earn the title of area champs three years and regional semifinalists two years.
Liesel also volunteers in her community. She is active with the youth group at her church and has participated in numerous church activities and volunteer efforts. She is second vice president of the Junior Catholic Daughters of America. She has participated in the teen ACTS retreats and helps prepare and organize retreats for others. She has volunteered many hours for numerous charitable causes.
Upon graduation, Liesel plans to attend Texas A&M University, where she will pursue interdisciplinary studies with plans to become a math teacher.
The September male student of the month is John Colby Shodrock, the 17-year-old son of Donna and Stephen Shodrock.
John has been an integral part of the FHS athletic program, participating in football and baseball. As quarterback of the football team, John has earned Academic All-District honors. He also plays second base for the Tiger baseball team.
John is also active in the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He is active in both FFA and the 4-H. As a member of 4-H, John received the Gold Star Award. He also holds an office on the county and club level. He is the Eagle Creek 4-H Club president and the vice president of the Wilson County Council. He is the District 10 second vice president. Through 4-H, John participates in entomology, clothing and textiles, food show, food and nutrition quiz bowl, and food challenge. He also raises show and breeding lambs. He has attended the Texas 4-H State Roundup for four consecutive years, placing in the top three individuals/team in the state every time.
John is a member of Link Crew at school and loved welcoming the freshmen to high school the past two years.
John finds time to volunteer in his community, helping riders during the MS 150 Bike Ride. During the Light the Night: Walk for Leukemia & Lymphoma, John walked miles of downtown San Antonio to raise money and awareness for the cause.Upon graduation, John plans to attend Texas A&M University, where he will major in either animal science-entomology or food science and technology.
