FLORESVILLE -- Another morning meeting of the Floresville City Council has ended with a reduction in the city’s tax rate. The 2-1 vote marks the end of Floresville’s 32.27-cent tax rate, which was first adopted in 1999.
Following a tense discussion during a Sept. 27 meeting that began at 10 a.m., councilmen John W. Guerrero and Mario Morones voted in favor of setting Floresville’s fiscal year 2013 ad valorem tax rate at 31.78 cents per $100 of assessed property value. This rate is the effective tax rate, as calculated by the Wilson County Appraisal District.
Councilman Sherry Martinez Castillo voted no, while councilmen Johnnie R. Gomez and Jesse Christopher Flores were not present.
Based upon the new rate, the average tax bill could decrease by approximately $4.82.

hmm....paying more for LESS trash service...sounds about right here in Floresville...Gomez's doing of course. Also, i guess the smaller trash can sizes i think were meant to accommodate Gomez's stature (or lack thereof,lol)...oh!! but wait a minute, he doesn't live here!! Well, i think that is probably one of his pet peeves in S.A. he can't reach lid on trash can, soooo, he made a vow to himself to rectify that problem here in Floresville

Everyone on my block, lost the paper that was placed in the lid due to the rain. I did happen to see the guys passing out the cans and stopped and grabbed another from them. This is now an automated system, we cannot put it near the mailbox (10 feet away) and 5 feet from other items. Yes the can is much smaller in width, same height. AND EVERYTHING HAS TO BE IN THE CAN, since no one will be picking it up. So is this cheaper than waht we had? Seems not. Also new days to remember.
Oh well, did we think any of the councilpeople were going to listen to the citizens?? HA!

FTP, your facebook is a joke. Its filled with accusations, but no facts to support your post. You have won the award for the least facebook likes and members to join you. After you add the 3 council members, the FEDC crooks, the city manager and his staff, who "liked" your page, that really only leaves you with about 3 people who "like" your page. See the numbers are really against you, the folks here are begining to wake up and understand what the Mayor, Castillo and Gomez have done to thier city and will continue to do if re-elected. The gig is up Gomez, time for your stick to the issues and quit trying to bash the other candidate with negative lies and propaganda.

Yes, the trash can is smaller. I feel bad for families that do have a lot of trash and are now going to have to place the trash that does not fit in trash bags placed next to the trash can. Will the trash company pick up trash bags placed next to the container? Thanks, Gomez, for nothing. However, now is a good time to learn to recycle. How is that going to work now? Will we still be able to drop off recycles on Goliad Road? How about it Gomez? Bella Rose, the city only allows council reps to place a newsletter in our monthly water bill. That way they can talk about themselves and how wonderful they are and how hard they work to represent us. Yea, right!

Has anyone else noticed a difference in the trash can sizes. I am sure this is going to cost us big for Gomez getting his way. The city still has not done thier job of communicating with the citizens. They did not put any news letter in our bills or the paper letting us know of the changes. I have heard they taped the instructions to the trash can.

9˘ per week . . $5 per year . . . 0.49˘/$100 of appraised value
What was the point?
This is the amount of additional taxes that would have to be paid above and beyond the property taxes paid to the City of Floresville last year. A TAX INCREASE
Councilman Morones and Councilman Guerrero stood on their principles and refused to allow a TAX INCREASE. The Mayor and Councilman Gomez claim that because the rate was the same as last year that this was not a tax increase. Unfortunately they are mistaken, according to the Texas Tax Laws and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
What Morones and Guerrero approved was the EFFECTIVE TAX RATE that would insure that taxpayers would be paying approximately the same amount in property taxes as they did last year, regardless of the current appraisal.
(Source: Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts - http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/proptax/tx96_295/rates.html)
"The effective tax rate would provide the taxing unit with approximately the same amount of revenue it had the year before on properties taxed in both years. For example, if property values go up, the effective tax rate goes down. Comparing property tax revenues from one year to the next year tells you whether there will be a tax increase."
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

Yup, thanks for the tax cut Morones and Guerrero. It's far more than Rene and his buddies are willing to give- because, don'tcha know- sales tax money isn't really tax money after all. It comes from the money fairy.
