Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1935-2012

Jose D. Alvarado passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 77 years, 4 months, and 9 days. Jose was born May 19, 1935, in Durango, Mexico, the son of Tito and Angelita Alvarado.

He was a resident of Floresville for 20 years and a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Nixon.

Jose was preceded in death by his father; his brothers, Quiterio Alvarado and Eutropio Alvarado; and his sister, Alicia Alvarado.

He is survived by his wife, Ubalda Alvarado of Floresville; his mother, Angelita Alvarado; and his children, Lourdes Alvarado of Dallas, Engracia Molina of Guadalajara, Mexico, Maritza Alvarado of Mexico City, Mexico, Angeles Rodriguez of Tijuana, Mexico, Eva Mancilla of San Antonio, Jesus Alvarado and wife Antonia of Floresville, and Gerardo Alvarado and wife Margarita of Floresville. Jose is also survived by his siblings, Guadalupe Alvarado of Mexico City, Adela Cobarrubias of Monterrey, Mexico, Altagracia Perez of Mexico City, Apuleyo Alvarado, Ascencion Alvarado, and Cupertino Alvarado, all of Durango, Mexico, Juan Alvarado of Augo, Mexico, Ricardo Alvarado of Acapulco, Mexico, and Manuel Alvarado of Mexico City; 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville with the Rev. Rene Amaya officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.
