Thomas “Tommy” McNeely Sr., 68, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. He was born on Nov. 15, 1943, in Lubbock to Everett and Ruby McNeely. Tommy served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years and retired in 1989. He then worked for VIA Metro Transit for 15 years, retiring in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Benner McNeely; and brother Ronnie McNeely.

Tommy is survived by his daughter, Joy McNeely and husband Aaron Gaston; sons Phillip McNeely and wife Alethia, Thomas McNeely Jr., Gary McNeely and wife Tammi, and Chuck McNeely and wife April; grandchildren Nate, Maggie, Gregory, and Paige; sister Priscilla Truesdell; nieces Susan, Naomi, and Ruby; and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 5-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A graveside service was held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with Chaplain Daniel Portillo officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
