Help Wanted

Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Joy Schroeder Luna, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at 6:53 p.m. in her residence in San Antonio at the age of 55 years, 5 months, and 11 days. Joy was born on April 12, 1957, in San Antonio, the daughter of Elton and Margie Lorenz Schroeder.

After graduating from Churchill High School, Joy worked in food service with NEISD for many years. Joy married Tony Luna on Jan. 7, 1978, in the San Antonio Templo Sion Assembly of God Church. Joy was a member of the Grand Lodge of the Sons of Hermann and the Shepherd King Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

Joy is survived by her beloved husband of more than 34 years, Tony Luna of San Antonio; her sons, Anthony Pete Luna and Michael John Luna, both of San Antonio; her brothers, Jerry Schroeder of Houston and Johnny Schroeder of Jacksboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral service was held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel officiated by the Rev. Ramon Martinez.

Interment followed in the Emmanuel Assembly of God Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Anthony Luna, Michael Luna, Stephen Luna, Marcus Luna, and Chris Schroeder.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
