Friday, Sept. 21

Compared to last week: Hay prices steady to firm. Movement continues to be light to moderate under fairly light demand. Large parts of the state received scattered rain showers and cooler temperatures the last couple weeks. The rains helped grasslands and crops but soil moisture levels remain short to very short

in many of the drought areas. However, these rain showers should improve the possibilities of another cutting and bailing of Coastal Bermuda hay before Fall. Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted.

North, Central, & East Texas

Alfalfa: Small Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme limited test $8-$12 per bale.

Large Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme $275-$305; Good to Premium $250-$275; few sales $150 per bale.

Coastal Bermuda: Small Squares: FOB: Good to Premium $265-$330, $8-$10 per bale; Good $4-$8 per bale.

Large Rounds: FOB: Good to Premium $60-$90 per roll, few sales $100 per roll; Good $45-$60 per roll.

South Texas Hay Report

Coastal Bermuda: Small squares: FOB: Good to Premium $230-$265, $7-$8 per bale; Fair to Good $165-$230, $5-$7 per bale.

Large rounds: FOB and delivered locally: Good to Premium $110-$140; $70-$80 per roll, Good $55-$60 per roll.

The Texas Department of Agriculture has Hay and Grazing Hot Line set up for buyers and sellers looking for hay or grazing; the number is 1-877-429-1998. The website for the hotline is: www.TexasAgricultue.gov/hayhotline.
