POTH -- The Poth Economic Development Corp. (PEDC) already has begun planning its “Christmas on the Plaza” event in December. The report on expenses for this event was among the agenda items the PEDC addressed during its Oct. 1 meeting.

The PEDC has purchased four Christmas trees -- one 12-foot, one 8-foot, and two 16-foot -- for a total of cost of $8,991, leaving an approximate surplus of $1,100 in the Christmas décor fund. Also included in the expenditure is a sign that spells out “Merry Christmas,” to be hung from the shade structure along U.S. 181.

As part of the Christmas on the Plaza celebration, Tisha Pruski plans to provide children’s craft activities, to include ornament making, a cake walk, and other Christmas-themed crafts.

PEDC board members also discussed the possibility of a performance by various youth dance teams with music provided by a sound system, instead of a traditional dance with a performance by a live musician.

Also during the meeting, the board heard that no bids have been submitted for the new park facilities project. Several companies have picked up the plans, but no one has returned with bids.

The project could be finished by baseball season, the directors heard. The original cost estimate for the bathrooms also was discussed. It is believed that the project could cost more than $50,000, but the city has no way to know for sure in the absence of bids.

Due to the lack of response from area builders, the PEDC may utilize subcontractors to complete the project.
