Help Wanted

Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Norma Louise Behrendt, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the age of 92.

Norma lived a very full life and was always giving to others. One year she was the Volunteer of the Year at the San Antonio Chest Hospital. She also volunteered at the Comanche Nutrition Site. Norma was also enthusiastic with all she set her heart to do. She was a member of the United Church of Christ for 64 years. She worked for more than 20 years at the Handy Andy supermarket and was a department manager. Later she worked at the Sommer Drug Store Warehouse. She was a member of Hermann Sons for 50 years. Norma truly lived life to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Marvin; parents Frank and Dora (Magnus) Jackel; and her two brothers, Ernest and Milton Jackel.

Norma is survived by her daughters, Ernestine Ierien and husband Robert and Peggy Jo Behrendt. She will also be missed by her three grandchildren, Jodi Lynne Ierien, Robert Ierien II, and Erika Springer; and her two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Megan Ierien.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6-8 p.m. in the Mission Park Funeral Chapel South in San Antonio, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel.

Interment will follow in the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in New Braunfels.
