College students, It’s all up to you!
American college students:
The next president of your country will need your support in order to be elected. Maybe you should support no one. Maybe you should support who your friends do. Maybe you should vote for who your favorite celebrity votes for. Maybe you should vote for who supports your personal favorite causes or who will possibly give you free stuff. Maybe you should vote against the guy supported by the people you do not like.
Or maybe you should research what has happened in the housing market, the bank industry, tax policy, the national debt, the cost of gas, the cost of health care, the percentage of people out of work or under employed or deep in debt or poverty, or on food stamps.
Maybe you should research what’s happening in Greece, Libya, Iran, Russia, Afghanistan, China, Japan, North Korea, Spain, and Syria.
Maybe you should look carefully at resumes in terms of experience, ideals, and skills such as keeping promises, following the law, bringing people together, and actually fixing problems.
Maybe you should support who has controlled the presidency for four straight years (two of these with a supermajority in both houses of Congress), which is the same party that has been in control of the Senate for six straight years, and is also the same party in charge of the House of Representatives for 50 of the last 64 years -- or maybe you should vote for the other guys (or a third party to send a message).
Or maybe you should do nothing -- after all, it only affects your country and your future.
THOMAS J. LEYTHAM, M.D.
