ON-CALL CRISIS POOL WORKERS NEEDED. Part-time positions are available for after hours “on-call” crisis workers to respond to mental health crisis for Wilson and Karnes Counties. Duties include crisis interventions, assessments, referrals to stabilization services, and referrals for involuntary treatment services according to the Texas Mental Health Laws. You must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, nursing, etc. On-call hours are from 5 p.m.-8 a.m. weekdays, weekends and holidays vary. If selected, you must attend required training and must be able to report to designated safe sites within 1 hour of request for assessment. The Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show’s Wild Hog Cook-off and Ranch Rodeo is set for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20, in the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show Arena, located east of Nixon off U.S. 87.

Friday night’s activities include a Women’s Ranch Rodeo with the Calcutta at 7 p.m., at which time the books also close. Entry fee is $400 per four-member team maximum.

The first 20 teams to pay in full will compete in the wild pig race, steer branding, steer mugging, and wild cow milking.

Admission for the public is free for this event.

Saturday afternoon at 4, the guys will have their turn, with the first 20 teams to pay competing in this San Antonio Ranch Rodeo qualifying event.

The gate admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth ages 5-12, and includes the rodeo and concert.

First-round events include steer branding, steer mugging, and Nixon-Smiley’s signature wild pig race.

The top six teams will advance to the final round. Five-member teams will compete in wild cow milking, the trailer loading contest, and wild hog roping.
