Goober Gazette: Eckel to represent Poth Chamber
Annika Kocurek Eckel is honored to have been selected by the Poth Chamber of Commerce to be their representative in this year’s Peanut Festival and coronation. Annika is the third generation of the Lyssy and Eckel family and is proud to represent the business community of Poth.
Annika, 17, is the daughter of Gerald and Deborah Eckel and is a senior at Poth High School.
She is a member of the Pirette varsity basketball team and a four-year member of the varsity golf team.
4-H has played a large part in Annika’s life. She has held a variety of offices in the Three Oaks Club and will be showing goats for her 10th year. She and her teammates won first place this year at the 2012 State Roundup with a Share the Fun skit.
Community service has been another big part of Annika’s schedule. She has participated for the last four summers at the Sea City Work Camp in Corpus Christi reroofing and rebuilding homes. She has helped several years with the H-E-B Sharing for Caring Christmas Dinner. In addition, she has enjoyed working at the Three Oaks Turkey Dinner for the past nine years. Annika also has run her own business by becoming certified and teaching swim lessons at her home.
Annika would like to thank Seth Dunn for being her escort. Seth, the son of Terry and Greg Dunn, is a senior at Poth High School.
