Katya Garcia-Montes is honored to represent director Jim Helmke in the 68th annual Floresville Peanut Festival. Katya is the 17-year-old daughter of Silvestre Montes and Nydia Garcia. Katya’s paternal grandparents are Francisco and Consuelo Montes of Floresville, and her maternal grandparents are Dora of San Antonio and the late Francisco Garcia.

Katya, a senior at Floresville High School, is part of the Work Based Program, currently working at the North Elementary campus. She participated in the Jaguar softball program her sophomore and junior years. She currently is a volunteer for several organizations locally.

Following graduation, Katya plans to attend college and major in education in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree and later pursue a career as an elementary teacher.

Katya extends her utmost gratitude to Brian Martinez for escorting her as duke. Brian currently is employed at South Texas Ice, and plans to join the armed forces. A special thank you to Brian’s parents, Carlos and Sandra Martinez of Floresville, for their support. Brian’s paternal grandparents, Paul and Guadalupe Martinez, and maternal grandparents, Geronimo and Rebecca Hernandez, reside in Floresville. She would like to also thank the Peanut Festival Association as well as Mr. Helmke for the honor of representing them in this event.

Katya would also like to thank her family for their love and support and their unwavering dedication. Being a duchess for this event is a unique opportunity and a memory that will be cherished forever. She looks forward to participating in this grandiose event and invites the public to join in this year’s Peanut Festival activities.
