Goober Gazette: Drozds, honorary parade marshals
Allan and Norma Drozd are honored to have been chosen as Floresville Peanut Festival’s Honorary Parade Marshals by President Rhea Nell Rogers.
The couple moved to Floresville in the summer of 1955 to become members of the Floresville faculty. Allan was employed as the vocational agriculture teacher and Norma was to teach English. Thirty-nine years later, Allan ended his career as an elementary principal. Norma ended her career as the high school librarian. Together, they served a total of 79 years as educators in the Floresville school system. They had planned to stay for just a few years!
They have two daughters, both born in Floresville and both now employed with the Floresville school system. Leann is a counselor in high school and Catherine is a kindergarten teacher at South Elementary. Catherine and her husband, Lt. Col. Randy Bruett, are the parents of Sarah and Erik, beloved grandchildren of Norma and Allan.
During the years they have lived in Floresville, they have participated in the Peanut Festival in various ways. Allan started by hanging peanut vines on the store fronts of downtown Floresville. They decorated the stage several times, hosted the rehearsal luncheon in their home, served as coronation chairman, and Norma now serves as a director on the Peanut Festival board. Leann served as a page in the Court of All Seasons with Queen Barbara Lawhon, as a train bearer in the Court of Spanish Gold with Queen Margie Roemer, and as a duchess in the Court of the Glorious Lone Star State with Queen Peggy Gorden. Catherine served as a train bearer in the Court of our Farming Heritage with Queen Catherine Maples and as Queen Tunaep XLV in the Court of Childhood Fantasies. Sarah had the honor of serving as page to Queen Kalyn Sisti’s Court of Celebrations of Texas.
Allan and Norma are honored, and thank President Rhea Nell Rogers for this very special honor.
