Barrett Smith would like to take this opportunity to extend his appreciation to Princess-elect Katherine Burkett for selecting him to serve as prince in the 68th annual Peanut Festival Court of America’s Majestic Beauty.

Barrett, 17, is the son of William and Gerry Smith, and the brother of Wesley and Russell Pelech. He is the grandson of the late Fred and Elizabeth Wiatrek, formerly of Poth, and the late Egmont and Dottie Smith, formerly of McQueeney.

Barrett will be carrying on a family tradition. His brother, Wesley, served as prince in the 56th annual Peanut Festival Court of New Horizons and Russell served as King Reboog the 57th in the Court of Majestic Radiance. Barrett also has several cousins who have served in either the Royal Court or Children’s Court.

Barrett, a senior at Floresville High School, has participated in the football, track and field, and golf athletic programs the past three years. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Gifted and Talented program.

He recently attended the ACTS Retreat with his church, Floresville Sacred Heart.

After graduating, Barrett would like to attend Texas A&M University in College Station to pursue degrees in wildlife fisheries and English.

Barrett extends his thanks to Pat and Hilary Reile for the beautiful designs for this year’s court, as well as his seamstress, Esther Montoya, Aunt Rose Marie “Mimi” Pennartz, cousin Renee Merten, and his mom for their tireless assistance in creating his beautiful sash.

He would also like to thank his family for their unending support and love. Once again, Barrett extends his appreciation to Katherine Burkett for selecting him to be her escort and share the fun and excitement in their upcoming year.
