Katherine Laurel Burkett is honored to have been chosen as princess-elect in the 68th annual Floresville Peanut Festival Court of America’s Majestic Beauty. Katherine is the 17-year-old daughter of Greg and Sadonna Burkett. She has a younger sister, Caroline, who is a seventh-grader at Floresville Middle School. Her grandparents are Johnny and Jo Ann Brannan of Floresville, and Woodrow and Carol Burkett of San Antonio.

Katherine and her family are members of the Floresville First Baptist Church. She has been an active member of the youth group and has enjoyed serving on mission trips as well as mission projects here at home. Katherine was also a member of the youth praise band.

Katherine, a senior at Floresville High School, is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class and will graduate as a Distinguished Honor Student. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is this year’s vice president. Katherine is an active member of Student Council and was reporter-historian last year. She is a member of the varsity golf team and received Academic All-District. She was a junior class officer, served on the prom committee, and has enjoyed being a member of the Link Crew. Katherine plays the saxophone in the Mighty Tiger Band and was band secretary last year. She was deeply honored to have been chosen girl band favorite for three years. This year, Katherine is extremely excited to be a drum major in the band.

Katherine is thrilled to have the opportunity to represent Floresville as the Princess of Floral Paradise in the 2012 Floresville Peanut Festival Court. She would like to express her sincere appreciation to the Peanut Festival board of directors for allowing her this opportunity to live out a childhood dream, and to follow in the footsteps of her mother, who was a princess in the 1985 Court of Future Horizons, and her cousin, Ashton Brannan, who was a princess in the 2009 Court of Enchanted Gardens. She would also like to thank Pat and Hilary Reile for the beautiful design, and her grandmother and seamstress, Jo Ann Brannan, for all of the hard work, love, and dedication that she put into making Katherine’s dress and train. Katherine extends her utmost gratitude to Barrett Smith for serving as her prince-elect, and to his family for all of their support. Katherine and Barrett are looking forward to this year’s celebration.
