Goober Gazette: King-elect Blake Anthony Popham
It is with great honor that Blake Anthony Popham looks forward to being crowned this year’s King of the Court of America’s Majestic Beauty for the 68th annual Peanut Festival.
Blake is the 17-year-old son of proud parents Dale and Shirley Popham. He has two older siblings who both graduated from Floresville High School, Brittany, 23, a 2012 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in sociology; and Brandon, 22, a journeyman with the National Union Association. Blake is the grandson of Gudrun “Oma” Dixon of Fredericksburg and the late Staff Sgt. Harold Dixon and Kenneth and Florence Popham of Floresville.
The king-elect will join the list of family members involved in past Royal courts, Madeline (Popham) Bailey, queen of the 2001 Court of Texas Myths and Legends, and Kathy Dockery, 2008 Court of Coronations Past princess.
Blake, a senior at Floresville High School, is a member of the Student Council, Link Crew, and the National Honor Society. In the past, he participated in varsity football, golf, and track. He is in the top 10 percent in his class.
He works at H-E-B, where he has made many friends, and also attends the Teen Medical Academy. He plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station to major in biomedical science and proceed to medical school for a doctorate in anesthesiology.
Blake would like to thank Queen-elect Caitlyn May and her family for inviting him to be her escort and to participate as king of this year’s Royal Court. He would also like to thank the Floresville Peanut Festival Association for giving him the opportunity to represent Floresville, along with Hilary and Pat Reile for their awesome designs and his wonderful seamstress; Mrs. Marietta Matheaus of Poth for all her hard work and dedication; and Natalie May for her timeless effort on making all the stars for his cape.
Blake would also like to extend a special thank-you to his Aunt Lea Popham of Floresville and an extra special thank-you to his Uncle Craig and Aunt Jeanette Westmoreland of Houston for helping him make all this possible.
Blake is already having a fun time representing Floresville and looks forward to a wonderful fun-filled upcoming year.
He would like to invite everyone to come join him and the Court in celebrating this year’s 68th annual Peanut Festival, Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 11-13. Let’s go nuts!
