The 68th annual Floresville Peanut Festival kicked off Tuesday with the Goober Games on the courthouse square. Children of all ages joined members of the Court of America’s Majestic Beauty for sack races, three-leg races, and many other events.

The next event for the festival is the coronation of the Court of America’s Majestic Beauty on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Wiley Seale Auditorium at Floresville High School. As Queen Tunaep and King Reboog and members of the royal court are presented, the public gets their first look at the lavish gowns and attire designed for this year’s court.

The carnival also opens on Thurday night and continues through Saturday night. From ferris wheels and carousels to games of skill, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

The big parade begins Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs through downtown beginning on C Street. Plan to get there early as the sidewalks fill quickly with spectators.

Guests at the festival can enjoy everything from roasted corn and gorditas to cotton candy and peanut brittle. Food booths will be open Friday evening and all day Saturday.

Shoppers should be prepared for an exciting array of handcrafted items including birdhouses, candles, home decor, jewelry, toys, and much more.

Visitors can enjoy entertainment throughout the day -- musicians, dancers, magicians, and more! Lone Star Lead & Lace performers will take you back to the days of gunfights and saloons. And the youngsters will enjoy the petting zoo and pony rides.

Street dances will be held Friday and Saturday nights near the courthouse. Friday features Tejano music with Albert Zamora and “Grupo Maldad.” Saturday’s entertainers, Kyle Bennett and Kyle Park, will perform country music.

Plan to attend this year’s festival to meet your old friends and make new ones.
