Teen charged with murdering former county commissioner

Officials with the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office have confirmed that 19-year-old Manuel De Los Santos Reyes Galeas of San Antonio has been charged in the Oct. 10 murder of former Atascosa County Commissioner Tommy Shearrer, 54. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Shearrer’s body was found inside his pickup truck on St. Augustine Road near F.M. 3006, which is approximately 8 miles southwest of the Wilson County line near the St. Augustine community.

Galeas also is the subject of two arrest warrants from Bexar County, which charge him with deadly conduct with a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in connection with an incident earlier that day. Bexar County sheriff’s Investigator Louis Antu said Galeas allegedly shot at his girlfriend near her home on U.S. 281 before fleeing to Atascosa County. The two incidents are not believed to be connected, he said.

Officials said Galeas is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as a Hispanic male standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with a medium build. Galeas weighs 145 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about Galeas’ whereabouts is asked to call Sgt. Investigator Matthew Miller of the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office at 830-769-3434.
