Stockdale News: Brahma Happenings — Red Ribbon Week
Greetings from the Stockdale Independent School District (ISD). The first six weeks of 2012-13 have come and gone and the district is busy moving forward.
Red Ribbon Week activities for the district are scheduled for Monday through Friday, Oct. 22-26. Theme days include:
•Monday - Give drugs the boot -- wear boots.
•Tuesday - Team up against drugs and bullies -- wear a team shirt.
•Wednesday - Be all you can be. Be drug and bully free -- wear camo.
•Thursday - Put a cap on drugs -- wear a hat.
•Friday - One school, one goal: Bully and drug free -- wear a spirit shirt.
The district has implemented the OLWEUS bullying prevention program. Together with teachers, staff, and parents, we can help prevent bullying in our schools. The four tenets are:
•We will not bully others.
•We will try to help students who are bullied.
•We will try to include students who are left out.
•If we know that someone is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and at home.
Stockdale Elementary School is in the planning process of this year’s winter wonderland. The date has been set for Friday, Dec. 14. Anyone interested in helping please contact the elementary.
Stockdale Junior High School is in the process of signing up students to participate in this year’s UIL academic meet. The meet will be hosted by Stockdale Junior High and will be held Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.
Stockdale High School will proudly present “Passport to Learning” Monday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m. Parents and students will visit all of their classes for the day on an abbreviated schedule. Parents and students will go from class to class and teacher to teacher and have their “passport” stamped at each destination. At the end there will be a chance to win prizes. For more information, call 830-996-3103.
Congratulations to the Teachers of the Month for September:
•Elementary -- DeNay Simpson
•Junior High -- Desiree Cooper
•High School -- Charlin Akin
Stockdale ISD is now accepting bids until Friday, Nov. 9, for the sale of real property located at 505 South Ninth St. in Stockdale. Many of you may know this property at the old Head Start building located directly behind Dollar General. Any interested party may stop by the main office for a bid packet. We also have the ad running for the next three weeks in the Wilson County News.
All Stockdale ISD staff are encouraged to participate in the 2012 Fall Healthy U Safe U Academy Wellness Campaign titled, “It’s not for cupcakes.” Each person is asked to commit to one or more of the 12 different activities that promote wellness and safety for three weeks. Each participant will receive a copy of the Dr. Ann’s Eat Right for Life Cookbook Companion. The campus with the highest percentage of participants will receive a banner to proudly display.
Have a great month. Halloween and Thanksgiving are just around the corner!
Paul Darilek is the superintendent of the Stockdale Independent School District.
