Candidates' Forum: Dr. Joel Odom
Candidate for: FLORESVILLE SCHOOL BOARD, District 1
I have been married for 29 years to my wife, Raynell, who is a family nurse practitioner in Floresville. We have two sons, Joshua and Jared, who both graduated from Floresville High School. We have lived in the Floresville area for 12 years. I am the senior pastor of Oak Hills Community Church.
The number one issue facing me if I’m elected is the improvement of morale among our teachers, staff, and administration. There is a great deal of stress and pressure placed on our school staff on a daily basis. For example, our city and county are growing at an unprecedented rate, causing many of our schools to be overcrowded.
This could be solved by adding staff or building additional schools. However, I believe the best approach is to offer constant encouragement and continuing support from the Floresville ISD school board.
If I’m elected, I will make frequent visits to our school campuses to encourage, listen, and offer any help our staff may need. In addition, any problems that might arise among our staff will be handled confidentially and with the utmost respect. I desire for our staff to know with confidence that they have a friend in the Floresville ISD school board regardless of the situation.
If our staff is encouraged and supported, this will in turn help our students to be the best and be successful in their endeavors. Our school staff and our students should be the most important aspects of our community apart from any personal agendas.
