Candidate for: FLORESVILLE CITY COUNCIL, PLACE 1

In August of 2004, after many years of working for the Department of Defense as a firefighter/paramedic, fire marshal, and later the U.S. Army Emergency Medical Services program manager, Donna and I chose to open a photography business near her hometown of Poth, in downtown Floresville.

The citizens, taxpayers, and business owners of our community require a fiscally responsible, transparent, and accountable city government. Our city government is responsible for providing essential services: streets, water distribution system, waste water system, and public safety.

Some estimates project that our city will grow to 12,000 or more residents by as early as 2016. Our city government is responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure is in place to support this growth. The spending of tax dollars for projects that are not essential city services must immediately cease! Regular comprehensive financial reporting and a comprehensive master plan for infrastructure that includes “real” costs, timelines, priorities, and potential funding sources must be established.

The requirements of fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability apply to all entities of the city to include the Economic Development Corporations, both the 4A and 4B. These corporations require appointed board members with experience and willingness to serve that will ensure these organizations achieve their objective of economic development.

These objectives can be met when respect is restored to our city government. Not the respect of the government, but the respect of the citizens, taxpayers, and business owners to whom our government is responsible.
