I was born and raised in San Antonio. I have more than 35 years of legal experience and have served as a state prosecutor, a federal prosecutor, the elected Bexar County Criminal District Attorney, and as a Justice on the Fourth Court of Appeals. I have tried more than 150 jury trials.

The biggest issue facing the Fourth Court is ensuring it is comprised of experienced judges with a diversity of expertise. The Fourth Court hears appeals from 32 counties. Roughly half of the cases involve criminal matters. Of the seven judges on the court, and all the candidates running this year, I am the only person Board Certified in Criminal Law or Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I am certified in both. I served as a prosecutor for 15 years in our community, and also represented persons charged with crimes in state and federal courts for approximately 15 years. We should want expertise when a court decides issues of money and property. The public should also want expertise when an appellate court considers whether a criminal conviction stands.

I also bring civil law experience to the court. After ending my term as Bexar County Criminal District Attorney, I worked with the law firm of Sessions & Sessions and William S. Sessions, a former U.S. District Judge and the former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I began a varied civil litigation practice, including contract disputes, employment, family, probate, guardianship, and securities law.
