Candidate for: JUDGE, COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS, PL. 8

Judge Elsa Alcala is the incumbent judge on the Court of Criminal Appeals. Before that, she served for nine years as a justice on the First Court of Appeals and was a state district court judge for more than three years. Alcala was also an assistant district attorney for nine years.

The Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest state criminal court in Texas. The number one issue for this Court is to maintain the criminal justice system in Texas. This means that the law should be enforced as it is written and applied fairly and evenly to all people at all times by qualified jurists. Judge Alcala is a highly qualified jurist with more than 14 years’ experience as a judge and as the author of more than 900 majority opinions that have decided cases on appeal.

Judge Alcala is also double Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
