Poth knocks off Natalia, tied for first
NATALIA -- After scoring touchdowns seemingly at will during its 47-20 win over Natalia, the Poth Pirate football team is continuing to keep pace with the best in District 15-2A DII, and remains in a tie for first place.
Since dropping its first game of the year to Marion, and struggling offensively during its win over Falls City, Poth has gotten back on track. The Pirates beat up on Cole 46-7 more than a month ago, and are averaging nearly 49 points per game through three district outings.
The Pirates, now 3-0 in district play, remain tied for first with Karnes City and Dilley. Meanwhile, Stockdale sits alone in fourth place, just one game back at 2-1. With four games remaining on the schedule, the district title remains up for grabs. Only three of the district’s eight teams will advance to the playoffs, and every game is being seen as a “must win” for each.
The Pirates will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 19, as they make the short trip across Wilson County to take on the Stockdale Brahmas. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Poth’s individual and team statistics for the Natalia game were unavailable as of press time.
