FLORESVILLE -- With just four games remaining in the regular season, as of press time, the Floresville Jaguar volleyball team remains unbeaten in District 29-4A play with a perfect 11-0 mark. Uvalde currently holds the No. 2 spot, three games behind the Jags at 8-3, and Medina Valley and Harlandale remain tied for third place at 7-4.

Last week’s victims included Kennedy and Memorial, as both schools fell to Floresville in straight sets. Jamie Crowder and Melanie Reed continue to lead the attack for the Jags, and Kristyn Coldewey really turned things on against Memorial.

So how good is Floresville? Well, since beginning district play more than a month ago, the Jaguars have dropped only four sets. And, three of the four set losses came in the first two matches, making Floresville 27-1 in sets played over the last nine games.

The Jags were set to play Southside Oct. 16, and will be in Uvalde this Friday, Oct. 19. From there, Floresville will close out the regular season with its final home game Tuesday, Oct. 23, and then a trip to San Antonio to face Memorial to close things out.

Bi-district play will begin Monday, Oct. 29, and the Jags are likely to lay claim to the district’s No. 1 seed. The regional tournament will be played Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, and the state tournament is set for Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 15-17.

I witnessed the game. These young ladies were down 2 games and could have easily just given up. They fought back and won the next 2 games and they were nail biters. Then they blew away the gutsy Uvalde team to win the deciding ... More ›
