Falls City 40
Pettus 0

PETTUS -- Before the season began, Falls City’s new Head Coach Steve Marbach said that the Pettus game would be big for the Beavers. After all, Marbach was the Eagles’ head coach last year, and the meeting between the two teams was to be their first District 14-1A DII game of the season. And while there may have been some discomfort prior to the game, that all went away as play began and the Beavers ran away with things en route to a 40-0 win.

The first of six Falls City touchdowns came in the first quarter on a 20-yard run from senior Jon Swierc. Then, in the second quarter, senior quarterback Cameron Soto got in on the scoring action with a pair of touchdowns. The first came on a 14-yard run, and the second from 10 yards out. Swierc ran in one of the 2-point conversions, and the Beavers held a 20-0 lead at halftime.

Following the break, Falls City put more points on the board with a 25-yard passing play from Soto to junior Dean Gaskamp. Swierc then carried in the 2-point conversion, and the lead was 28-0.

The Beaver passing game wasn’t finished in the third, though, and Soto connected with junior wide receiver Tyler Moore for 50 yards and another Falls City touchdown. The conversion attempt failed, but it was all but over as the Beavers carried a 34-0 lead into the fourth and final quarter of play.

Falls City pulled back a bit in the fourth, but the Beaver offense was still too much for Pettus. Gaskamp scored Falls City’s final touchdown of the game, this time on the ground with a 22-yard run into the end zone. The point-after attempt failed, but it was of no consequence, as the Beavers wrapped up a 40-0 win over the Eagles.

Soto completed 7 of 12 passing attempts for 113 yards and two touchdowns on the night, including the long passing play that went to Moore for 50 yards and the score. Gaskamp completed 1 of 2 passing attempts for 19 yards on a completion to Harlos. Moore led all receivers with his 50 yards, Gaskamp and Phillip Lyssy each had 21 receptions yards, Harlos had 19, Luke Jimerson had a catch for 14 yards, and David Brodsky had two catches for 7 yards.

Swierc led the rushing game with 75 yards on 11 carries, followed by Soto with 66 yards on 10 carries, and Brodsky with 36 yards on two rushing attempts. Kendall Kanak and Gaskamp each ran for 20 yards, Lyssy ran for 16, and freshman Joseph Swierc ran once for 11 yards.

Junior Eric Wiatrek led the defensive effort with 13 tackles on the night. Senior Colton Beam had 7 tackles, and Austen Camber, Dylan Cheatham, and Phillip Lyssy each had 5.

The win boosts Falls City’s record to 4-2 on the year, and 1-0 in district play. The Beavers will step away from the district this week, as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Trojans from District 16-1A DII. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
