The Red, White, and Blue 4-H Poultry Club of Wilson County is celebrating its one-year anniversary! What a year it has been. We want to thank all of the community that helped us succeed this year.

We have been busy learning to bathe chickens, how to show our birds, showmanship, blowing eggs, decorating eggs, how a poultry show is set up and run, clerking for judges, bettering our community with picking up trash, helping clean up Osborne Stables, egg donation to the local food pantries, and working together as a team.

Our club is the newest 4-H project club in Wilson County. We focus on Show Poultry. We learn about the American Poultry Association and the American Bantam Association’s guidelines for poultry breeds and their standards of perfection.

Our board members are President Michael Schwartz, Vice President Stefani Petersen, Secretary Lindsey Starz, Treasurer Sarah Schwartz, and Historian Laura Fitzsimon.

This year’s main project will be organizing and hosting an egg show. Eggs are entered and judged on their color, size, shape, and content.

If you are interested in showing poultry and would like to be part of this club, call 830-393-2644. All youth ages 8-18 are welcome to join.

Susan Schwartz is club manager of the Red, White, and Blue 4-H Poultry Club.
