Texans for Constitutional Government and the Wilson County News sponsor a Candidates Forum Oct. 18, in the American Legion Hall in downtown Floresville. The forum was open to all candidates for office in Wilson County and the city of Floresville for the Nov. 6, 2012 election. The sponsors posed questions to the candidates present; the format allowed for questions for the candidates from interested citizens.

Still with the Tea Party badmouthing. From what I hear, at least one Floresville elected official was at the forum. He had to sit and LISTEN to what was said, and he was unable to interrupt or shout the speakers down.
If all of these racists, hatemongers, and truth twisters actually quit listening to the likes of MSNBC and David Letterman, and started doing their own research about the Tea Party movement, they would see that they've been mistaken.

There are always more things people want done but the high priority things must come first. More deputies and more equipment can always be used. More taxes are required to pay for them. I think Sheriff Tackitt has done a good job of working within the budget he is allowed. He has my vote.

30 years ago, the County was small, and very well run. I lived in Bexar County and it was well known to not mess with Wilson County.
Not sure what happened to that mindset, but could be that relatives, and the good old boy system became the power and most just followed.
But make sure that the CHANGE is going to be a change to the better, not to just start another set of good old boys. Solid citizens are needed to step up to really help our County, just as we need Governor Romney to help this Country turn around.

I went to cast my vote today at City Hall and a man that lives out in the county was in front of me wanting to vote in the city election for Mayor. Fortunately he was not allowed to. Also, he did not seem to be showing the election workers any ID, but he finally said he lived in Brentwood Estates. I don't know why he was there in the first place, he was an older gentleman, maybe he was confused. If I were one of the candidates, I would appoint someone to watch the voting process.

Fed up with arrogance, I know I said it was my last blog, but I feel I must respond. You ask when was the last time he asked for your vote or campaigned. Every time the Sheriff attends the countless functions throughout the year, he's asking for your vote. Every time he puts on benefits to assist the less fortunate, he's asking for your vote. Every time he has offered his help and assistance to the citizens of this county, he's asking for your vote. The Sheriff has done this for all the years he's been in office, not like many who were elected into office and took the voters for granted by keeping a chair warm. Sheriff Tackitt has proved countless times by his actions his dedication to the citizens of this county. So in answer to your question he has been campaigning and asking for your vote every day for the last 20 years due to his actions, not a one time misleading campaign ad to promise what he might do. I still wish you and your candidate well.

Sheriff Tackitt is her to stay folks. I have gone in to talk to him on several occasions. I can say that when I have asked him to do or look into something for me it was done. I even go a call back from him to ask if everything was "fixed". He went to my Daddy's funeral. Now that is a man that cares about a family's vote & interests. He has got an open door policy. It's mr. Brooms attitude that I don't like I get the perception that his attitude is the sheriffs department is "good enough" and "change is bad" I'm not against Sheriff Tackitt I'm against complacency. Sheriff Tackitt was not at the candidate forum Mr. Burchell was and spoke very professionally as to what he wanted to do, what his qualifications were and why he wanted to run. Mr Tackitt has never missed one of my kids weddings or my parents funeral's but did miss the opportunity to speak at the candidate forum and why I do not know? Mr. Brooms comments lead me to believe he himself has become complacent which unfortunately speaks badly for Sheriff Tackitt. Mr. Broom Said Mr.Burchell is being deceptive and misleading the public, He chose to attack Mr. Burchell but then whines about negativity when he gets called out.

There was an open forum and that would have been a great time for the Sherrif to tell us his plan and how he plans on moving forward. He was a no show and Burchell was present. I would have loved to have seen some facts as in something from the Sherrif showing us that crime is down, or what have you, but he wasnt there to back himself up.

I have been a peace Officer in Wilson County for 20 years. I do not have a problem with another candidate running for office, it is a fair avenue for voters to choose the best candidate. The problem I do have is when a candidate uses deceptive and misleading comments in his campaign. Mr Burchell would have you believe our County is saturated with gang activity, prostitution and pedophiles on every corner. In my 20 years I have not witnessed nor have I received a call on gang activity or prostitution in this County. In regards to sex offenders, they have been and always will be closely monitored under Sheriff Tackitt's administration. Myself and every other Deputy in this Office have children and take sex offenses very serious and have some of the best investigators continuously monitoring these type of offenses. Mr. Burchell's idea of monitoring school zones during certain hours is a fine idea but, when you consider we have more school zones than Officers on patrol it is unrealistic. These are peak hours for burglars and our Officers have to be ever vigilant in patrol in hopes of thwarting burglaries. This is not Bexar County and at this time we need to utilize the resources we have and prioritize where they serve our residents in the most crucial areas. We do patrol school zones during our patrols and I think we have been doing an excellent job. The fact that we have not had any major incidents in our school zones speaks for itself. There is a reason more and more residents are moving into Wilson County, and I suspect law enforcement plays a big part in that decision. Mr Burchell himself cited an incident in the forum that happened to him and his family in Bexar County, his response was he immediately moved, I believe to Wilson County. Lets keep in mind there is a reason Sheriff Tackitt has been Sheriff of this County for the last 20 years...he cares. It is easy for a candidate to tell you what he is going to do, but another to follow through. All the certifications in the world do not make a good Sheriff but actions do and Sheriff Tackitt has proved through the years he has made Wilson County a safer place to live. Sheriff Tackitt is one of the most honorable and dedicated man I have ever met and has proven this with actions, not words, and when he does speak it is based on fact not rhetoric to merely solicit votes. Sheriff Tackitt has maintained a respectable and dedicated law enforcement standard for this County and will continue to do so. I hope you will vote for a proven candidate and not someone who would have you believe the sky is falling. Vote for Sheriff Joe D. Tackitt Jr. For the continued success and growth of Wilson County.

The Texans for Constitutional Government did a great job in organizing and presenting this event.
