U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John D. Swift has graduated from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, Pa., and has earned a master’s degree in strategic studies. The college is the Army’s senior educational institution.

The 10-month curriculum of the Army’s senior officer school is designed to prepare and train officers of all the U.S. military branches of service, foreign military officers, as well as senior civilian officials of federal agencies, to serve in top-level command and staff positions with the U.S. Armed Forces worldwide.

Swift is the commander of the 5th Security Forces Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. The lieutenant colonel has served in the military for 19 years.

He is the grandson of Wanda Russell of Del City, Okla., and father of Christopher Swift of San Antonio and Timothy Swift of Elmendorf. He is the nephew of Paulina Slaymon of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Swift graduated in 1981 from Del City High School in Oklahoma He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1990 and a master’s degree in 1996, both from the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
