POTH -- Officials from the Poth Police Department and the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a recent rash of burglaries and thefts that have occurred here since Oct. 1.

Eric Alexander Treviño, 33, of San Antonio was arrested Oct. 16 by sheriff’s deputies and charged with burglary of a building, and two counts of theft of property worth more than $50 but less than $500. This was following back-to-back incidents at the Wilson County Precinct 2 yard on Railroad Street. Pct. 2 Commissioner Paul Pfeil said that on Oct. 15, someone accessed the yard by cutting a hole in a fence. Once inside, they allegedly stole 25-30 gallons of unleaded gasoline from a tank. The burglars also broke into a truck, from which various tools were stolen.

Sgt. Thomas Silvas of the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies recovered some of the stolen items from the pickup truck Treviño was driving. They then went to the vehicle’s registered owner’s home on Westmeyer Street and Treviño’s home on Wright Street, where additional stolen items were recovered.

Phillips said that Treviño’s alleged accomplice, 40-year-old John David Delgado of Poth, was captured Oct. 18 by sheriff’s deputies. He was charged with violating his parole and with theft of property worth more than $50 but less than $500.

Officials continue to investigate an Oct. 1 burglary at the Poth city yard on Railroad Street, in which tools and gasoline were stolen. The investigation also is ongoing into an Oct. 7 theft at the Poth High School football stadium on Westmeyer Street. Phillips said sections of primer red steel fencing, valued at $800, were stolen from outside a shed.

Then on Oct. 17, between 7-10 a.m., someone stole a black, 1995 Chevrolet Camaro with Texas license-plate number DKY-438 from the Wiatrek’s meat processing plant on Menchaca Street. A witness said a dark-skinned Hispanic male, who weighed approximately 200 pounds and had a shaved head, was seen in the area shortly before the theft occurred. It is not yet confirmed whether this incident is linked to the others.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to call the Poth Police Department at 830-484-0281. Anonymous tips -- which qualify for a cash reward if they lead to an arrest -- can be submitted to Crime Stoppers of Wilson County at 830-393-INFO (4636) or bit.ly/NDrIut.
