Eagle Ford: Munro is now VP of ESD No. 2 board
He has attended only two board meetings, but Royal Munro is now the vice president of the Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 board. Munro was selected unanimously at the board’s Oct. 15 meeting, to fill the unexpired term resulting from former Vice President Sarah Gella’s resignation.
Munro was selected by the Wilson County Commissioners Court earlier this month to replace Gella. His unexpired term as vice president will end in January.
The board also selected Munro as the alternate member of the committee to negotiate the ESD’s ambulance services contract with the Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services. Treasurer Bill Kenney, who presided over the meeting, said negotiations continue and that both organizations had met Oct. 8 for at least two hours to discuss the agreement. Representatives from both sides also met briefly after the Oct. 15 meeting.
Kenney said an ambulance services contract should be in place by Nov. 1.
In addition to funding ambulance services for a portion of Wilson County located between Floresville and Elmendorf, the Wilson County ESD No. 2 also was established to provide fire protection for that same area.
The board has yet to select an entity to provide firefighting services, prompting Ralph Gerhardt --who was in the audience -- to ask, “What’s the status of the fire side?”
Kenney responded, “That’s next.”
***In attendance: ESD board members Bill Kenney, Bob Gadd, Greg Burkett, and Royal Munro; and Chief Jackie Komives of the Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services.
