James Hudell Wright passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, in Floresville at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 2 days. Hudell was born on May 17, 1925, in Stockdale, Texas, to Elmo and Floyd Hill Wright. He was a lifelong resident of Floresville.

Hudell was the owner of Eschenburg Hardware for many years as well as being a cattle rancher. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. He served with General MacArthur on the second wave into the Philippines, and also the occupation of Japan. He then graduated from college and went on to work for Standard Oil Co. until 1957.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, William Elmo Wright and Daniel Wright.

Hudell is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carolyn Mitchell Wright of Floresville; son Jim Wright and wife Donna of San Antonio; brothers Richard Hill Wright of League City and Bill Wright of Pleasanton; grandchildren Cheryl Schoellkopf, Stephen Wright, and Michael Wright; and great-grandchildren William Wright Schoellkopf, Mack Fisher Schoellkopf, and Evelyn Laurel Wright.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Entombment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Stephen Wright, Michael Wright, Andrew Schoellkopf, Neftali Villafranca, Mike Herry, and Ronnie Eckel.

Honorary pallbearers were Frazier Wallace and Charlie Fuller.
