FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville High School junior varsity Tiger football team put together another dominating performance last Thursday night against Uvalde to earn a 39-8 victory.

The Tigers got on the scoreboard immediately when Dillon Gaither took the opening kickoff all the way back for a touchdown to make the score 6-0. Later in the half, the Tigers would get another score from the defense when Uvalde fumbled the ball in the end zone. The Coyotes recovered it, but Gaither was there for the tackle and safety, making it 8-0 in favor of the Tigers.

Shortly after that, the Floresville offense got another score from Gaither on a nice run around the right side. The 2-point try was no good, and the score stood at 14-0.

The Tiger defense, led by Josh Jeffreys, Alex Gonzales, Sebastian Rodriguez, Jesus Carrizales, Jody Trevino, Carlos Cruz, Jesus Avila-Barba, and Tanner Hearne continued to be stingy and got the offense the ball back shortly before the half ended. The Tigers were able to move into scoring position, and on fourth-and-4, the Tigers were able to get into the end zone after a pass from Jeffreys and a nice one-handed grab by Tyler Masur. The touchdown put the Tigers up 20-0 at half.

The second half was more of Gaither running the ball, and the offensive line of Corey Opiela, Malik Lehmberg, Eric Chavez-Soliz, Nick Rangel, and Tyler Sanchez kept paving the way. Gaither would score three more rushing touchdowns in the second half, thanks in large part to some great blocking up front.

The Tigers finished the game with a 39-8 win to give themselves a 5-2 record on the season and a 3-1 district record.

The junior varsity team has come to work every day and it has paid off, as they have continued to get better. Congratulations on the win.
