LA VERNIA -- The La Vernia Lady Bear varsity cross-country team picked up its fourth team title and upped its record to 100-1 against all teams it has raced against this season.

The Lady Bears held off a very tough Class 5A Smithson Valley squad. Despite the Lady Rangers going 1-2-3 individually, the Lady Bears countered with a tighter team finish. The varsity boys placed the top two individuals and finished third as a team.

“Our kids raced great considering they came off of doing extremely well at the huge Round Rock meet the week before,” said Head Coach Richard Hinojosa. “This was the perfect tune-up meet before district. I’m very proud of all of our kids, both high school and junior high.”

The next meet for the varsity Bears and Lady Bears is the district meet scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 25, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Seguin’s Starcke Park. The junior high team will compete in its district meet Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. in Starcke Park.
