The 2012 Latinos in Agriculture Leaders Forum has selected Palo Alto College student Daisy Garcia to participate as a member of the student panel. The forum was held Oct. 17-19 at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio.

Garcia, a graduate of McCollum High School, is currently an agriculture major at Palo Alto College and serves as the president of the Lone Star Ag Club on campus. After receiving her degree from Palo Alto, she plans to transfer to Texas State University in San Marcos to earn a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, majoring in animal science. Her career goal is to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

According to an Oct. 5 Palo Alto College press release, Garcia was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to attend the annual national conference of the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities in October 2011. She also completed the Masters of Beef Advocacy program with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in May 2012. In summer 2012, Garcia completed the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education course for Preparedness and Response to Food and Agriculture Incidents as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Management and Planning Level training requirements.
